The legislation Governor Mike Rounds signed will allow victims of identity theft freeze their credit reports up to seven years. It will be enacted July 1. They must notify Credit Reporting Bureaus in writing. This just came from the Rapid City Journal and our readers are the first to know. Anyone from South Dakota here?

South Dakota joins 12 states that give their residents the right to freeze credit reports. When you freeze your credit report, no information can be released without your permission. Only those consumers who have already been the victims of identity theft are eligible.
