By enacting the credit report freeze legislation, New Hampshire follows similar laws passed in one form or the other by 14 states. The first original 12 states that passed credit report freeze followed by South Dakota and Minnesota. You have to pay $10 to lock down your credit reports unless you have suffered identity theft before. Credit agencies must place the freeze no later than 5 business days after receiving your written request.

To unfreeze for a period of time or a specific creditor, notify each of the credit bureaus and they will send you a personal identification number within 10 business days of receiving the request. The fee is $10. Credit agencies must lift a freeze no later than 3 business days after receiving your request.
