She just called looking for some debt relief from the pile of debt. Lives in her parents home, 5 credit cards plus school loans have her in $13,000 debt. Add to this $500 monthly payment for Pontiac G6, and that for 48 months with not so "Smart Buy", credit scores of 567, 568, 579, and you understand why she needs three jobs to just stay afloat. She has some college degree, I didn't quite get, was that a Fashion Merchandise Buyer, or one of those Psych majors, but she works for a collection agency (was hard no to laugh), waits tables and somewhere else. Her total income is less than $2,000, I told her to get a lawyer and see if she can qualify for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. Just wondering how many like her, young, college graduates are wandering around with broken credits and piles of debts.

Although she probably qualifies for Chapter 7 depending on her state, she doesn't need bankruptcy. Since under the new law a person can take Chapter 7 bankruptcy every 8 years but only three times during their lifetime, she should save it for when she is really in trouble. What she needs to do is get rid of the car payment, buy a "beater" car and use the money to pay her bills. Also, in many states she would not be allowed to take bankruptcy because she has too little debt.
