Q: I've just begun the task of cleaning up my credit report, and your blog has been so helpful thanks, but I do have a question - If I have a charged off credit card account which is 4 years old, can I request that the credit reporting agency remove it from my credit report? Or, do I need to wait 7 years for it to be removed?
A: Yes, the charge off will stay on for the 7 year period. You can try to ask the credit agencies nicely but it is very unlikely, they will tell you that by law, it is what it is. Don't go with any credit repair shops which promise you the removal, all they do is send dispute letters one after one, basically overwhelming credit agencies for a short time, getting a bad credit record removed, such as charge off, late payments, etc., only for it reappear in a month or so.
4 year old credit card charge off shouldn't affect you that much anyway.
