Q: I have duplicate student loan trade lines on Equifax and Experian credit reports. I consolidated my student loans with Citibank, but the four trade lines - two loans with each, Sallie Mae and Bank of America showing up as nearly identical trade lines - the same limit, monthly payment amount, terms, etc. The only slight difference in the account numbers is the two last digits are missing. Should I dispute these duplicate student loan trade lines or just leave them alone.
A: You can dispute or just leave them alone. This happens quite often and lenders are aware of the situation. Just keep all the paperwork so if you need a loan, you have proof. If you want to dispute, write a letter of explanation and attach copies of all the consolidation work and if you have, loan papers before consolidation.
