Unpaid tax liens and credit reporting time

Q: Is that true that an unpaid tax lien will be dropped from credit reports after 9 years? I was told that generally old unpaid liens just go away. I have a $460 plus another $125 in fees on the income tax lien that I can but simply hate paying.
A: That is completely incorrect. All unpaid tax liens stay on the credit report pretty much indefinitely and are of course enforceable, until paid in full.
A tax lien is imposed on property by law to secure payment of taxes, be it for delinquent taxes owed on real property or personal property, or because income taxes or other taxes weren't paid. Regardless, to fight IRS is quite silly over something which is rather minor, and you won't win. Read more on tax liens in how to remove IRS lien from credit report.
