Credit repair books? Not that you need any ...

Q: Can you recommend some credit repair books? We applied for a car loan and were denied. The banker informed us that my wife credit score was 583 and mine was 561. She said we both have a lot of garbage on our credit reports (her exact words) and need to get a credit repair book to clean our reports.
A: Hmm ... did she recommend any? She certainly sounded quite opinionated and didn't mince words, did she? Look, in my humble opinion, you need a credit repair book as much as you need some third party credit repair agency - you don't. You can find all relevant information needed on this website and others. While you can sometimes get a useful e-book on the subject, most credit repair books I have seen, didn't have any more useful information than free websites. For starters, read Self credit repair and Credit report dispute overview.
