R9 credit rating - how it impacts your credit score?

Q: I have R9 credit rating on my credit report. It is a $571 MasterCard charge off. Does it make sense for me to pay it? If I do, will it make any difference on calculating my credit score?
A: R9 credit rating is one of many negative credit indicators and the one that often brings the score further down immediately after your pay it off, at least for short period of time. You can pay it off, but try to negotiate 2 things -
first, the amount which MasterCard issuer is wiling to accept,
second, if it is willing to change the account status to Paid or Paid In Full from Charge Off, and the note to Account Closed By Consumer from Profit/Loss Write Off.
