Internet payday loans in Vermont

question.jpg

Q: I live in Vermont and have 3 payday loans. Hardly making any payments in several weeks. Can you tell me if they are legal in Vermont. All 3 are Internet payday loans -
United Fast Cash, owe ~$930
Paradise Payday Loans, owe ~$750
Loan Point, owe ~$600

I really want to get out of this mess, but just lost my second job. My rent is also increased by $20 per month. Another thing goes awry, like muffler or brakes, and I am in real pain.

A: Internet payday loans are illegal in Vermont. Close the bank account that you used when dealing with these shops immediately. It is not safe to keep this account. Now, you are only morally responsible to pay them the principal amounts borrowed. Legally, there is nothing such Internet payday loans can do about it. If you feel like paying them and can afford, then deduct fees and charges that you have paid them by now, subtract from the principal amounts and pay the difference. Then again, they may owe you the money, if those fees and interest exceed the principal loan amounts.
